My journey and dedication to your child's success
What led me to start Monique’s HEART was both my professional experience and my personal journey. As an educator with more than 20 years of experience working with exceptional students, I have seen how overwhelming the school process can be for families. Parents often want to help their child, but they may not understand the language, paperwork, services, goals, accommodations, or supports available through the ESE, IEP, or 504 process.
I also understand this from a personal place. My own two sons struggled in school, and at the time, I was not fully familiar with the ESE program or how to navigate the support system. I know what it feels like to want answers, to want the right help, and to not always know where to begin. I have also watched friends and family members experience similar challenges while trying to support children with special needs.
Those experiences shaped my heart for this work. I started Monique’s HEART because I want families to feel informed, supported, and empowered.

Compassion, clarity, and family-centered support
Beyond my professional experience, I bring compassion, patience, creativity, and a deep understanding of both sides of the process — as an educator and as a parent. I know that families are not just looking for paperwork or services; they are looking for someone who will listen, explain, guide, and truly care about their child’s success.
One of the qualities that makes a difference in my work is my ability to meet families where they are. I do not believe in making parents feel judged, confused, or overwhelmed. I take the time to explain educational terms, IEP/504 supports, goals, accommodations, and next steps in a way that is clear and meaningful. My approach is supportive, honest, and family-centered.
With students, I bring patience, encouragement, and the ability to build trust. I understand that behavior, academic struggles, and emotional challenges often have a deeper reason behind them. Instead of focusing only on what a student is doing wrong, I look at what the student needs.

Connecting the dots for student success
One example that stands out is a student who was struggling academically and behaviorally, but the family was unsure why school had become so difficult. The student was falling behind, avoiding work, becoming frustrated, and beginning to lose confidence. From the outside, it may have looked like the student was simply refusing to complete assignments, but I knew there was more to the story.
I helped the family and school team “connect the dots” by looking at the whole child — academic skills, behavior patterns, emotional needs, classroom expectations, and the supports already in place. Once we looked deeper, it became clear that the student’s behavior was connected to frustration, skill gaps, and not fully understanding how to ask for help.
From there, we were able to identify more appropriate supports, clearer goals, accommodations, and strategies that matched the student’s actual needs. The family began to understand the process more clearly, and the student began to feel less defeated.
"I know how overwhelming the process can feel for families, and I want to be the person who helps bring clarity, hope, and direction."
